Russia, African Nations Strengthen Cooperation
The two-day meeting, held on December 19–20, marks the first ministerial-level session to take place on African soil. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was among the prominent participants, with plans to engage in bilateral discussions on the sidelines. Organizers noted that the talks will also lay the groundwork for the upcoming third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for 2026.
This conference follows the inaugural gathering in Sochi in November of last year, where officials began executing decisions from the second Russia-Africa Summit in 2023. Those measures included a comprehensive action plan covering economic partnerships, security cooperation, and political coordination.
The Russia-Africa Partnership Forum itself was first introduced at a landmark summit in Sochi in 2019, symbolizing Moscow’s renewed effort to deepen its presence on the continent. Many African nations have increasingly sought dependable alternatives to Western governments, making Russia’s outreach a significant development in global diplomacy.
